Paving a Medical Path to Wellness
Join us in our mission—paving a medical path to wellness for patients at all stages of Lyme disease. With the goal of ending prolonged suffering, the Stand4Lyme Foundation is dedicated to accelerating a cure. We are challenging and disrupting the traditional research barriers that delay solutions reaching patients―keeping the runway clear for acceleration!
We support the efforts of the Stanford Lyme Disease Working Group’s Research Programs (SLWG). Focusing Stand4Lyme’s fundraising efforts at Stanford University School of Medicine draws upon Stanford’s strong tradition of academic freedom and interdisciplinary collaboration, with a proven track record of translating scientific discovery into solutions for complex challenges.
Transforming the landscape through collaboration, members of Stanford’s Lyme Disease Working Group share our fundamental belief that diverse scientific contributions integrated in a shared vision are required to transform the landscape of Lyme disease research and alleviate the burden of Lyme disease. The results of these far-reaching and interdisciplinary efforts will be disseminated to expedite awareness and implementation of emerging viable solutions for diagnosing and treating Lyme disease. The group currently includes scientists from over a dozen different disciplines and departments, who also collaborate with scientists at other leading institutions, including Harvard, Johns Hopkins, Columbia, Tulane and Duke. Collaboration offers the greatest potential to bring about greatly needed solutions in diagnosis and treatment—sustaining our hope for a cure.
The Stand4Lyme Foundation facilitates resources for the Stand4Lyme Fund that was established at the Stanford University School of Medicine to inspire and support this extraordinary group of clinicians and scientists, the SLWG, who share our sense of urgency to accelerate cutting-edge research and expedite medical advances for Lyme disease. Through a contribution to the Stanford Stand4Lyme Fund, you have the exciting opportunity to stand united behind this exceptional platform for investing in solutions.
By directing tools and resources to support and connect innovators in the field, new technologies from many fields of medicine can be more quickly leveraged to fuel breakthroughs in Lyme diagnostics and treatment. The world's top scientists share their insight on Lyme disease
Lyme disease, a public health epidemic, is the fastest growing infectious disease in the US, costing our health care system billions annually. The CDC estimates there are over 300,000 new cases of Lyme disease reported each year - 6x times more cases than HIV. Yet, the National Institute of Health Lyme budget is less than 1% of HIV. Research is significantly underfunded, leaving millions with profound lifelong altering affects. If not treated early, the Lyme causing spirochete bacterium, Borrelia burgdorferi, similar to syphilis, can progress to a debilitating stage and can potentially be fatal. New studies suggest transmission of Lyme may no longer be limited to a bite of an infected tick and children may contract Lyme in utero. Absence of reliable diagnostic testing often causes Lyme patients to be misdiagnosed with other diseases, such as Rheumatoid Arthritis, Multiple Sclerosis, ALS, Autism and Alzheimer’s and leaves our blood banks at risk with no curative treatment.

These interdisciplinary collaborations, from over a dozen different departments, are enabling scientists to build upon each other’s work, share findings, and transcend traditional research barriers to benefit patients more quickly — leading to a brighter future for all Lyme patients.
